European Quadball Cup 2026 in Pfaffenhofen: Sport, Vielfalt und 380 Euro Spenden für Queer Pfaffenhofen
Ein internationales Sportwochenende in Pfaffenhofen
Am Pfingstwochenende wurde das Gelände des FSV Pfaffenhofen beziehungsweise das Städtische Stadion Pfaffenhofen mit seinen Sportflächen zu einem internationalen Treffpunkt der besonderen Art: Am 23. und 24. Mai 2026 fand hier der European Quadball Cup 2026 Division 1 statt. 24 der stärksten Clubteams Europas reisten nach Pfaffenhofen an der Ilm, um auf den Turnierfeldern um Punkte, Platzierungen und den europäischen Titel zu spielen. Für die Stadt bedeutete das ein Wochenende voller Tempo, Teamgeist, Sprachenvielfalt und Begegnungen weit über den Sport hinaus.
Spendenaktion für Queer Pfaffenhofen
Auch Queer Pfaffenhofen e.V. war vor Ort sichtbar. In Absprache mit den Veranstaltenden wurden während des Turniers Spenden zugunsten unseres Vereins gesammelt. Einen eigenen Stand hatten wir dabei nicht: Das Committee stellte einen Tisch bereit, an dem Give-aways und Merch von Queer Pfaffenhofen gegen Spende erhältlich waren. Am Ende kamen insgesamt 380 Euro zusammen. Dieses Ergebnis zeigt, wie stark sportliche Großveranstaltungen lokale Solidarität stärken können: Menschen kommen wegen des Spiels zusammen – und nehmen zugleich wahr, welche Initiativen sich vor Ort für Akzeptanz, Sichtbarkeit und ein respektvolles Miteinander einsetzen.
Was ist Quadball?
Quadball, früher vielen unter dem Namen Quidditch bekannt, ist heute eine eigenständige, dynamische Kontaktsportart. Gespielt wird mit Elementen aus Handball, Rugby und Dodgeball. Auf dem Feld stehen pro Team bis zu sieben Spielende, die je nach Position unterschiedliche Aufgaben übernehmen. Einige Spielende versuchen, den Ball durch einen der gegnerischen Ringe zu werfen; andere setzen Dodgeballs ein, um Gegenspielende kurzzeitig aus dem Spiel zu nehmen. Nach einer festgelegten Spielphase kommt zusätzlich die Flag ins Spiel: Eine suchende Position versucht, einer neutralen flagtragenden Person die Flag zu entreißen. Je nach Punktestand kann dieser Moment ein Spiel entscheiden oder noch einmal komplett öffnen.
Ein Sport mit Vielfalt im Regelwerk
Eine der größten Besonderheiten von Quadball ist jedoch nicht nur das ungewöhnliche Regelwerk, sondern die Haltung des Sports. Quadball wird geschlechtergemischt gespielt. Eine Gender-Regel begrenzt, wie viele Menschen desselben Geschlechts gleichzeitig für ein Team auf dem Feld stehen dürfen. Dadurch ist Vielfalt nicht nur ein Begleitwert, sondern Teil der sportlichen Struktur. Gerade deshalb passt Quadball besonders gut zu einem Verein wie Queer Pfaffenhofen: Der Sport verbindet körperliche Intensität mit Fairness, Selbstbestimmung und einer Kultur, in der Menschen unterschiedlicher Geschlechter und Hintergründe gemeinsam auf höchstem Niveau antreten können.
Ghent Gargoyles holen den Titel
Sportlich endete das Wochenende mit dem europäischen Titel für die Ghent Gargoyles aus Belgien. Die Finalspiele zeigten noch einmal, warum Quadball als schnell, taktisch und überraschend gilt: Ballbesitz kann innerhalb weniger Sekunden wechseln, Treffer zählen unmittelbar, und die Flagphase sorgt bis zum Schluss für Spannung.
Ausblick: gerne wieder in Pfaffenhofen
Für Pfaffenhofen war der European Quadball Cup 2026 damit mehr als ein Turnier. Er war ein Beispiel dafür, wie internationale Sportkultur, lokales Ehrenamt und queere Sichtbarkeit zusammenwirken können. Die Rückmeldung aus dem Umfeld des Events war eindeutig: Die Veranstaltung möchte sehr gerne wieder nach Pfaffenhofen kommen. Für Queer Pfaffenhofen ist ebenso klar: Wenn der European Quadball Cup erneut hier Station macht, möchten wir als mitveranstaltende Organisation aktiv dabei sein.
Danke für 380 Euro Solidarität
Der Dank gilt allen, die gespendet, am Tisch vorbeigeschaut, Fragen gestellt, Merch mitgenommen oder einfach ein freundliches Gespräch geführt haben. 380 Euro sind ein wertvoller Beitrag für unsere Vereinsarbeit – und zugleich ein starkes Zeichen dafür, dass Sport und Vielfalt in Pfaffenhofen gemeinsam Platz haben.

An international sporting weekend in Pfaffenhofen
Over the Pentecost weekend, the FSV grounds and the Städtisches Stadion in Pfaffenhofen, with its sports facilities, became the stage for a truly international sporting event. On 23 and 24 May 2026, the European Quadball Cup 2026 Division 1 brought 24 of Europe’s strongest club teams to Pfaffenhofen an der Ilm. On the tournament pitches, athletes competed for points, rankings and the European title. For the city, it was a weekend full of speed, team spirit, different languages and encounters that reached well beyond the sport itself.
A donation campaign for Queer Pfaffenhofen
Queer Pfaffenhofen e.V. was visibly present throughout the weekend. In agreement with the organisers, donations were collected in support of our association. We did not have our own stand: the committee provided a table where visitors could receive give-aways and Queer Pfaffenhofen merchandise in exchange for a donation. By the end of the event, a total of €380 had been raised. This result shows how major sporting events can strengthen local solidarity: people come together for the games, while also discovering initiatives that work locally for acceptance, visibility and respectful community life.
What is quadball?
Quadball, formerly known to many as quidditch, is now a dynamic sport in its own right. It combines elements of handball, rugby and dodgeball into a fast-paced, tactical contact sport. Each team can have up to seven players on the field at a time, with different positions taking on different roles. Some players try to score by throwing the ball through one of the opposing hoops, while others use dodgeballs to temporarily knock opponents out of play. Later in the game, the flag becomes active: a seeking position attempts to pull the flag from a neutral flag runner. Depending on the score, this phase can decide a match or completely reopen it.
A sport with diversity in its rules
One of quadball’s most distinctive features is not only its unusual ruleset, but also the values built into the sport. Quadball is played as an all-gender sport. A gender rule limits how many players of the same gender may be on the field for one team at the same time. As a result, diversity is not merely a message around the pitch; it is part of the structure of the game itself. That is why quadball connects so strongly with an organisation like Queer Pfaffenhofen: the sport combines physical intensity with fairness, self-determination and a culture where people of different genders and backgrounds can compete together at a high level.
Ghent Gargoyles win the title
On the sporting side, the weekend ended with the European title going to the Ghent Gargoyles from Belgium. The final matches showed once again why quadball is considered fast, tactical and unpredictable: possession can change within seconds, goals count immediately, and the flag phase keeps the result open until the very end.
Looking ahead: a welcome return to Pfaffenhofen
For Pfaffenhofen, the European Quadball Cup 2026 was therefore more than a tournament. It was an example of how international sport, local volunteer work and queer visibility can support one another. Feedback from the event environment was clear: the tournament would very much like to return to Pfaffenhofen. For Queer Pfaffenhofen, the message is just as clear: if the European Quadball Cup comes back, we would like to be actively involved as a co-organising association.
